TEMPO.CO, Jakarta– Arief Sugoto, the president director of state-owned house developer Perum Perumnas, said the government’s one-million-house program would kick off on Monday, March 30, 2015 simultaneously in eight locations nationwide—beginning with the construction of 10,000 homes for its initial stage.

“The occupants will be selected through a series of tight requirements,” Himawan said at the Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday, March 24, 2015.

The houses’ construction in Jakarta will be at Bumi Cengkareng Indah, Kamal, West Jakarta, where the government plans to build 5,000 small and healthy homes (RSS) on a four-hectare land plot. The rest, he said, would spread to regions in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Kalimantan, and Sulawesi.

The one-million-house program was initiated by President Joko Widodo, for which the central government allotted Rp13 trillion stemming from the 2015 state budget.

Himawan said he had asked the Jakarta administration to expedite permit processing related to the program and meticulously select would-be occupants for the homes—ensuring the residents would not resell their units.

Himawan said the RSS in Cengkareng would be integrated to 18 towers—each comprising 24 floors. He explained the type 36 homes in Cengkareng was aimed at the middle-class society and would sell at Rp330 million.

According to Himawan, the construction would be completed in two years. “We use an apartment concept, but the price is that of low-cost apartments.”
