TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister Sudirman Said said Wednesday that President Joko Widodo would launch a 35,000-megawatt power plant megaproject in late April after the Asia Africa Conference (AAC) anniversary event in Bandung.
Sudirman said the launch event would be designed as a public event so the government could inform the people and investors about the project.
The government targets to develop the country's electricity infrastructure up to 42,000 megawatt in the next five years, with a new 35,000 megawatt project and another 7,000 megawatt project to complete the 10,000-megawatt electricity project that will finish this year.
Sudirman said the power plants would reduce the use of fossil energy, and that almost 60 percent of them will use coals, while the rest diesel fuel.
The total investment required for this project reaches Rp1,100 trillion. Sudirman said the 10,000 megawatt of the 35,000-megawatt project will be done by state-run electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), while the rest 25,000 by investors.
