TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) chair Megawati Soekarnoputri officially opened her party’s fourth congress in Inna Grand Bali Beach Hotel, Sanur, Bali, on Thursday, April 9, 2015.

In her opening address, Megawati said the PDI-P had gone through a long road of playing an opposition role for ten years before regaining the public’s trust and becoming the ruling party once again in 2014.

“This victory has convinced us that we have taken the right path,” she said. “We prevailed in the 2014 presidential race.”

Megawati later added a statement that appeared to be directed to President Joko Widodo, who was in attendance, that a leader must keep the promises he made during the campaign season—in line with the party’s ideology of democracy from the people, by the people and for the people.

“I have repeatedly asked President Joko Widodo to cling to his campaign promises, because those are our sacred ties with the people,” she said.

Megawati also reminded the president to preserve his commitment to running his administration on the Trisakti ideology, which comprised political independence, economic self-sufficiency and a strong socio-cultural character.
