TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – President Joko Widodo has appealed to Asian-African nations to engage in a collective effort to create external stability and security, which are among the prerequisites of smooth development in all countries.
“We have to make sure that our waters, our seas, are safe to the world. We want that disputes are not resolved through means of violence” he told leaders of Asian-African countries when opening the Asia-Africa Conference (AAC) at the Plenary Hall of the Jakarta Convention Center (JCC) in Senayan on Wednesday, April 22, 2015.
Jokowi said conflicts had stymied the development process in affected countries, and that both external and internal stability were necessary to keep it in motion.
Jokowi also asked all nations to tackle violence, quarrels, and radicalism, mentioning that ISIS was a fresh example of violence and radicalism the world faced at present.
The president also declared war against narcotics, which ruined the future of the young generation. “Therefore, Indonesia initiates these informal meetings of Asia-Africa Conference countries,” he said.
