TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The United States is to send a Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) team to support the Indonesian investigating team into the shooting in Timika, Papua. I do not know the certain date, Stanley Harsha, Press Attache at the US Embassy in Jakarta, told Tempo News Room on Friday (17/1). He went on to say the FBI team will hold meetings with Indonesian state officials before flying to Timika. The shooting incident took place on August 31 last year. Three buses from the Tembagapura International School carrying a group of teachers were attacked and shot by unknown assailants as the buses approached a bend on the 62.5-mile mark of the highway. Three passengers were killed and other nine suffered gunshot injuries. The three who died were identified as Ted Burcon and Rickey Spear (from the US) and FX Bambang Riwanto (from Indonesia). Harsh said he did know the number of FBI personnel to be sent to Indonesia and has not yet received information about the agenda of the meetings between FBI and Indonesian officials. The US are sending the FBI team because President George W. Bush considers Indonesia is slow in handling the case. Also, there have been reports in US media that the Indonesia Military (TNI) was involved. Regarding this, the US has threatened to cancel plans to provide military aid. (Faisal-Tempo News Room)
