Government Hopes CGI Will Provide US$2.6 Billion

16 July 2003 16:25 WIB

TEMPO Interactive, Nusa Dua, Bali:Anggito Abimanyu, an advisor to the Minister of Finance, has explained the State Budget 2003 will need US$3.2 billion or Rp29.25 trillion and that these funds are expected to come from two foreign sources. It is hoped that Consultative Group on Indonesia (CGI) donors will provide about US$2.6 billion, while the remaining US$600 million will come from the Japan Bank International Cooperation. During the CGI meeting held in Nusa Dua, Bali, today (21/1) Anggito said there was possibility that CGI donors would provide more finance. They [the donor countries] may provide more finance if they are satisfied with our reform program, he said. The key decision-makers are the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the World Bank and the Japanese government. David Mellor, the Jakarta IMF representative, said that the CGI meeting was focused on creating a conducive investment climate and providing new opportunities for employment. According to Mellor, in general the donor countries consider that Indonesias macroeconomic performance has improved, as the Rupiah has been stable, inflation is low and the budget deficit has been reduced, compared to previous years. Daniel Citrin, IMF Deputy Director for the Asia-Pacific region, said that Indonesia must be maintained recent fiscal sustainability by controlling growth and ensuring good debt management. The CGI meeting was opened by Jemal-ud-din Kassum, the World Bank Vice President, together with Dorodjatun Kuntjoro-Jakti, Indonesias Coordinating Minister for the Economy (Febrina-Koran Tempo)
