Suspect in Christmas Eve Bombing Case Surrenders to Dompu Police

TEMPO Interactive, Mataram:Abdul Jabar (33), a suspect in the 2000 Christmas Eve bombing in Jakarta who has been on the run, surrendered to the police in Dompu, West Nusa Tenggara, on Thursday (23/1) morning. Abdul Jabar admitted that the Bali bombing suspect Imam Samudra had asked him to make a fake identity card. The West Nusa Tenggara Police placed Abdul Jabar on the wanted list following Jakarta bombings about three years ago. It is reported that Abdul Jabar was involved in three bombing cases, including the bombing at the Atrium Plaza, Senin, the bombing at the residence of the Philippines Ambassador and the bombing at a church in Jakarta. Chief of detective at the West Nusa Tenggara Police, Senior Commissioner Wahyudi, explained the police are still waiting for investigation team from the Jakarta Police to provide complete data of Abdul Jabars involvement. Despite saying that Abdul Jabar was involved in some bombing cases in Jakarta, Wahyudi did not explain in detail what Jabars role was in the cases. Wahyudi confirmed that Abdul Jabar knows Imam Samudra and during the investigation, he admitted that Imam Samudra had asked him to make a fake identity card. They met at a mosque in the Menteng area, Central Jakarta, in mid 2000. However, Abdul Jabar said he was not involved in the Bali bombing case. According to Wahyudi, during the Christmas Eve bombing in 2000, Abdul Jabar had been allegedly hiding in Dompu. One of his parents comes from the regency, but Jabar was born and grew up in Jakarta. However in 1994, he married a woman from Dompu so he therefore often goes to Dompu. (N. Arif Miko-Tempo News Room)
