When Veronica Answered Ali Imrons Call

TEMPO Interactive, Denpasar:When the Veronica answering service responded to Ali Imrons call, it meant that the Bali bomb was ready to explode. At the Bali Police Headquarters on Tuesday (11/2), Ali Imron, alias Ale, explained the chronology of the Bali bombing that claimed 184 lives and wounded hundreds on October 12, 2002. That night, Ali drove his car along Jalan Puputan Renon in Denpasar, Bali, and stopped his car about 500 meters from the United States Consulate Office. He put the bomb wrapped with red and white plastic under the front seat. Pretending that his car stalled on the road, Ali, the brother of the Bali bombing main suspect Amrozi, then activated the firing device. Before returning to his rented room on Jalan Menjangan, he stopped at the Bajra Sandhi Monument and monitored the situation. Later in his rented room, he then prepared the bombing action. We explained the procedure, and when all was ready, I drove the car with Arnasan alias Iqbal and Feri alias Iqbal 2, Ale said to the police in the presence of reporters. The three people then went to the scene, about 7 kilometers from his rented house. Approaching to Jalan Legian, Ali Imron asked Feri to wear the waistcoat loaded with explosive materials. He also asked Arnasan, who was holding the detonator, to link the detonators cable to the firing device. Ale then got out of the car and Arnasan took over the driving. Ali Imron left the scene along with Idris who had been waiting for him, and who brought a cellular phone with him. Thats what was used to explode the bomb, Ale said. They then rang the phone to trigger the explosion. The first call was received and after a moment, they rang the number again. The answering service Veronica then responded to the call. This meant that the telephone was starting to trigger the explosion. After a couple of minutes, they heard the sound of the explosion from Kuta. Believing that the bomb had already exploded, they then went to the Al Ghurobah Musholla, leaving the motorcycle in front of the mosque.
