TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Former Jakarta governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok refused to comment on the public request for his becoming the chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) or joining the cabinet of President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo.
“I will not comment [on any issue] about governmental affairs,” he told Tempo via phone call, Monday, July 15.
Through his account Twitter @basuki_btp, a number of netizens posted their wishes for Ahok to return to the government. “I fully support [him] to be #KPK chairman,” as tweeted by an account @NurRoso9. Other account, @MARCIAA2002, said “Come on Pak, be @KPK_RI chairman. Fight those who corrupt, we Indonesian citizens always support you.”
In addition to the request, some people expressed their longing for Ahok’s leadership style. Even a man who claimed to be a fan from East Nusa Tenggara, @absalomlau, named his child Ahok.
“I’m a huge fan from NTT so I named my kid Airille Jonathan Basuki Lau (Ahok Lau), who was born in Kupang, August 17, 2017. I hope God will let me meet Bapak,” the man posted and attached his kid’s photos.
After being released from the Mako Brimob Prison, Depok, West Java on January 24, Ahok has become active in the public. He frequently shared thoughts via social media, including his YouTube account Panggil Saya BTP that boasts over 970,000 subscribers.
