ICW Doubts Novel Baswedan Case Exposed; Police: Be Optimistic

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Police quipped about the Indonesia Corruption Watch's (ICW) pessimism on the investigation into the case of acid attack against Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) senior investigator Novel Baswedan.

“A pessimistic person is narrow-minded. We must be optimistic,” said National Police spokesperson Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo at his office, South Jakarta, Monday, July 15.

ICW exuded its cynicism about the case while staging a demonstration together with the Jakarta Legal Aid (LBH Jakarta), Amnesty International Indonesia, and KontraS on Monday, July 15, in front of the National Police headquarters. They demanded the police resolve Novel's case as soon as possible.

“We are pessimistic about the police’s work,” said ICW researcher Wana Alamsyah.

Dedi explained every new finding during an investigation process had always been exposed to the public, and Novel's case was no exception.

He pledged that the police would reveal the assailants or the intellectual actors of the acid attack. “This will be exposed, step by step,” Dedi underlined.

On July 9, 2019, the police’s joint fact-finding team for Novel Baswedan's case submitted its investigation results to National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian.

“Today, we’d like to report that our team has completed the task based on the Police Chief's decree and submit a 170-page report with almost a 1,500-page attachment,” said team member Nur Kholis at the National Police headquarters on July 9.
