TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan supportively welcomes the plan of Islamic preacher Miftah Maulana Habiburrahman – known as Gus Miftah – who is set to hold a religious lecture in one of the city’s nightclubs.
“I truly hope that [the lecture] will bring a sense of peacefulness in Jakarta and for us all,” said Anies Baswedan at Jakarta’s City Hall today, July 23.
According to Anies, every citizen has the right to hold a lecture and personally hopes that Gus Miftah will be able to deliver his teachings to a large portion of society in the country’s capital.
Previously reported, Gus Miftah said he will be giving a religious lecture (Tausiyah) in August of 2019 at one of Jakarta’s night clubs. He initially asked for Anies’ permission during both men’s encounter at the City Hall’s Mosque earlier today.
“I ask for the Governor’s permission to enter more nightclubs,” said Gus who once went viral after a video recording of one of his lectures in Bali spread in social media. He claims this has been something he had done for the past 14 years.
