TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Pandjaitan said the government would immediately finalize the construction project of seven international hub ports or a transit hub for export and import logistics. Luhut expected the shipment cost could be dropped following the hub ports opening.
“Our logistics cost can be reduced by 35-40 percent,” said Luhut in his office, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta, Tuesday, July 23.
The shipping of export and import goods to Indonesia would no longer be via Singapore. The cargo from and to other countries could arrive or dock in one of the ports.
The seven hubs in question would be located in Belawan/Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra, Tanjung Priok in Jakarta, Kijing in West Kalimantan, Tanjung Perak in East Java, Makassar in South Sulawesi, Bitung in North Sulawesi, and Sorong in West Papua.
The international hubs, he went on, would be integrated with domestic sea route, so there would be vessels to load goods from small ports to the hub, or vice versa.
Luhut Pandjaitan mentioned the construction of the seven hub ports had eventually been completed. Therefore, he would shortly hold a final meeting with other ministries, such as the Transportation Ministry and the National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas). He added all parties must be agreed on the national project because of the cost-efficiency.
