47 Individuals Named Suspects of Wildfire in Riau

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 47 individuals have been named suspects of land and forest fire in Riau, Sumatra, the National Police announced.
“[We have only named] one suspect from the corporation, namely PT SSS (Sumber Sawit Sejahtera),” said police spokesman Brig. Gen. Dedi Prasetyo in a written statement, Monday, September 16.
To date, suspects who are responsible for wildfires in the 150-hectare land belong to PT SSS have yet to be named.
The police are still questioning 42 witnesses, which comprised of 25 officials of the firm, eight civilians, and seven expert witnesses. “We still need testimony from several other expert witnesses.”
The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) spokesman Agus Wibowo said on Sunday that the visibility in Riau Province reduced to one kilometer due to thick smog.
“Most of Riau areas are covered with smog, the visibility is only 1 km this morning at 7 a.m,” said Agus in a statement, Sunday, September 15.
