TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Sports and Youth Minister (Menpora) Imam Nahrawi has been named a suspect of graft by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) together with his personal assistant Miftahul Ulum.
“The KPK, after the investigation, named two suspects, IMR and MIU,” said KPK Deputy Alexander Marwata at his office on Wednesday, September 18.
Minister Imam is believed to have accepted Rp14.7 billion from his assistant from 2014 – 2018. He is also believed to have accepted graft up to Rp11.8 billion from 2016-2018, which amounts to Rp26.5 billion.
According to Alex, some of the money is linked to the National Sports Committee of Indonesia (KONI) grant back in 2018. He is believed to have used the grant and abused his authority for personal interests.
The suspect-naming of Imam marks the second Sports and Youth Minister nabbed by the KPK after Andi Mallarangeg. Andi, during his tenure as a minister, was involved in a graft case linked to the Hambalang sports facility in Bogor.
Andi Mallarangeng was eventually sentenced to 4 years behind bars and fined Rp200 million by the corruption court (Tipikor) in July 2014 for accepting Rp2 billion in the Hambalang construction project.
