TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Hundreds of students of numerous universities united today, September 19, in a rally held in front of the House of Representatives (DPR) headquarters located at Gatot Subroto Street, Central Jakarta.
Tempo field report found that student representatives came from the University of Indonesia, Bandung Institute of Technology, Paramadina University, Trisakti University, National Development University (UPN) Veteran, Unindra, and a plethora of others.
Students held many posters and banners in protest of the House of Representatives and to establish a motion of no-confidence against the country’s Legislators following controversial moves by the House recently.
The narrative mainly consists of DPR’s decision to pass revised Laws on the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) and Criminal Code. They also called out the controversial naming of a police member as the new KPK leader.
“KPK gets castrated, KPK is caged! They should have been permitted to work in an optimum way, but rather they get curbed!” shouted one of the protestors.
Head of strategic studies department of the University of Indonesia's students' executive board, Elang M.L, said that today’s protest is proof of the disappointment aimed at the DPR that has hastily passed several crucial Bills that sides with Legislators rather than the people.
