TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi urges ministries to start one of the ideas he pitched during the 2019 presidential election dubbed the “pre-work card” program as early as January 2020.
“I surely expect the program to be enacted as we enter January,” said the president in the meeting on Tuesday, January 12. He also hopes the program can be supported by service providers in the private sector.
According to Widodo, 58 percent of Indonesian workers consist of junior-high-school graduates and below. He deems it is the right moment to reform the education system and vocational training.
With the pre-work card, the jobs seekers are able to utilize it to directly pick crash courses or training through a digital platform that the government has prepared.
“They can choose the type of coaching they are interested in, such as coffee baristas, graphic designers, English courses, computer skills, technicians, programming, coding, and many more,” said the president in the meeting.
As for eligibility, Joko Widodo said that laid-off workers are also able to utilize this pre-employment card to improve their skills.
