15 November 2019 11:17 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) recorded a total of 74 aftershocks per 06:59 a.m., Friday, November 15, following the powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 struck Jailolo of North Maluku Thursday, at 11:17 p.m.

“As of today morning at 06:59 a.m., 74 aftershocks jolt North Maluku Sea following the main quake,” said BMKG’s quake and tsunami mitigation center head Daryono in his Twitter account, Friday, Nov. 15.

BMKG also recorded several aftershocks after the main tremor: first was at 00:66 a.m. centered in 127 km west of Jailolo Sea, and the second was a 5.9 magnitude quake at 128 km west of Jailolo Sea at 01:45 a.m. Both were noted to have occurred at a depth of 10 kilometers and did not have the potential of a tsunami, despite the tremor reached Ternate, Manado, and Bitung.

The meteorology agency previously issued an alert warning of a tsunami following the strong quake and lifted it at 01:45 a.m. The agency finalized the report on the tidal wave at a height of 0.6 meters in Ternate (11:43 p.m.), 0.9 meters in Jailolo (11:43 p.m.), and 0.10 meters in Bitung (00:08 a.m.).

“There is no report of damaged infrastructures or injured people until now. The joint team of Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) and Military and National Police is studying the earthquake aftermath,” Agus said.
