Edhy Prabowo Claims to Find Oddities in Susi Pudjiastuti's Policy

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (KKP) Minister Edhy Prabowo claimed he had found several irregularities in the systems and policies applied by his predecessor, Susi Pudjiastuti, in the past five years.

“In these past five years, there have been some oddities in the KKP. Some [issues] are not well communicated. What I have said does not mean to attack the previous minister,” said Edhy during a discussion with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry (Kadin) at Kadin Tower, South Jakarta, Monday, November 18.

Edhy explained he had detected such communication problems since he served as the head of Commission IV at the House of Representatives (DPR). At that time, the KKP was helmed by Susi Pudjiastuti.

During the era of Susi, he said, several entrepreneurs voiced some complaints, including overlapping regulations between the KKP and other ministries. One of them was the operation of ex-foreign vessels.

According to Edhy, many businessmen have possessed the license for sailing ex-foreign boats from the Transportation Ministry. However, the ships could not be used for fishing after the KKP issued a moratorium on the ex-foreign boats.

Therefore, the minister pledged he would correct several asynchronous regulations between his ministry and other ministries.

“We will set a one-door portal for the licenses of boat operations between the Transportation Ministry, the KKP, and the Manpower Ministry because they oversee ship crew members,” he added.

Edhy Prabowo further opined that as a country that depended on the maritime sector, the role of stakeholders, especially business actors, could not overlooked. Thus, he asserted that reducing the dichotomy between fishermen and businessmen was necessary. “Both develop aquaculture in the fisheries sector.”
