TEMPO.CO, JakartaGrab Indonesia planned to impose sanctions on e-scooter riders of GrabWheels violating the existing regulations, including the Law on Traffic.

“We will impose sanctions on violators,” said corporate spokesman Tri Sukma Anreiano in Sudirman, South Jakarta, Monday, November 18.

Tri stressed that the sanctions would be in the form of a fine worth Rp300,000 up to users’ account suspension.

He said riders who did not wear helmets, shared one e-scooter (two or more persons), rode them at the pedestrian bridges, outside the designated lanes, or against the traffic, and underage riders would be subjected to the sanctions.

Tri recalled that his company had explained those regulations to customers since the beginning. However, many still committed such violations. As the operator, Grab would further educate and disseminate the usage methods of e-scooters, he added.

“We target [the sanction will be valid] in the near future because we are still drafting the regulations,” Tri said.

He went on to say that the regulations were drafted for security and convenience reasons of GrabWheels riders and the public. Grab has also mobilized several officers to conduct supervision. “We will collaborate with Satpol PP (Public Order Agency),” Tri concluded.
