Minister Erick Thohir Prepare New Policy to Protect Women

12 December 2019 03:37 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir announced that he is planning to add a new set of policies to prevent sexual harassment against women working in state-owned enterprises (SOEs). This comes as the online rumor of sexual harassment allegations within Garuda Indonesia came to light.

"I predict early next year. We will highly assure sexual harassment against female SOEs employees will be prevented. Female employees must not be subjects of [unacceptable behaviors]," said the Minister in the Presidential Palace Complex on Wednesday.

Erick does not deny that SOEs are mostly dominated by men and asserts that this new set of rules will be introduced to protect women working in the SOEs environment from bad behaviors.

"Women should receive clear protection, especially from leaders that are not incompetent," said Erick Thohir.

Erick then said he has based his decision on cases happening overseas that have legal protection against exploitation against the female workforce.
