TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Grab Indonesia has officially partnered with home-grown electric-powered motorcycle producer Gesits to provide the ride-hailing firm with 10 e-bike motorcycles for its initial phase, which will be increased as demands arise.

“We intend to build an ecosystem of electric vehicles,” said Grab Indonesia president Ridzki Kramadibrata on Friday.

In response to the partnership, Minister of Research and Technology Bambang Brodjonegoro said Gesits should get serious attention from all stakeholders.

“Gesits is a product that is truly developed in Indonesia. From its inception to its final innovative product,” said Bambang in a separate location.

The partnership deal was further explained by the CEO of Gesits’ parent company PT Brum Brum, Ade Sulistioputra, who said that the partnership with Grab was a strategic step to better popularize electric motorcycles.

“One of the [contributing factors to] motorcycle growth is online motorcycle taxis. Including Grab,” said Ade. Gesits electric motorcycles will be available as early as January 2020.
