DPR Suspects Foul Play in Harun Masiku's Case

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Member of the House of Representatives' (DPR) Law Commission, Sarifuddin Sudding, said he is suspicious of the immigration agency’s initial disregard on the whereabouts of bribery suspect Harun Masiku.
The PDIP politician was named a suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) in the bribery case of General Elections Commission (KPU) commissioner Wahyu Setiawan. Harun was named a suspect on January 9, just days after he departed to Singapore on January 6.
However, the directorate-general of immigration only announced today that Harun had actually returned to Indonesia since January 7.
“This raises questions among members of the public. There’s a miscommunication between state-institutions. The Law and Human Rights Minister was incompetent in coordinating with his subordinates,” said Suding at the Senayan Parliamentary Complex, Wednesday, January 22.
Suding said he has two suspicions regarding the incident; first is Harun’s mysterious whereabouts are due to miscommunication; secondly, he suspects it is an intentional cover-up by the immigration due to a conflict of interest with Minister Yasonna Laoly who is a PDIP member too.
Despite his suspicions, the House member said Minister Yasonna Laoly must take full responsibility for Harun Masiku fiasco.
