TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta governor Anies Baswedan weas reluctant to answer questions related to flood anticipation measures and the National Monument ("Monas") revitalization program. Water has even flooded the Monas court, located just across the State Palace.
"Enough, we celebrate Chinese New Year first," Anies said when asked by journalists concerning the flood during his visit to the Dharma Bakti temple to supervise Chinese New Year celebration on early hours of Saturday, January 25, 2020.
Anies also refused to responde to questions concerning the Monas revitalization program, which has gained the public spotlight. "I'll repeat once more, happy Chinese New Year 2571, Gong Si Fat Cai. About (the Monas revitalization), the Regional Secretary has provided explanation. Enough," Anies said while walking away from journalists.
Until today, the Ministry of State Secretary is yet to provide permit for the Jakarta Provincial Government to revitalize Monas. A commission of the Jakarta Regional Representatives Assembly had also requested for the revitalization program to be postponed temporarily. However, contractors continue to work on the program.
The Monas revitalization revitalization program gained public attention for cutting down 190 trees around the area. The problem continues after the address of the contractor responsible for the program was considered to be unconvincing. Following these findings, the Jakarta Regional Secretary Saefullah reported to the State Palace.
"I have been to the State Secretary, we are now delivering the appendix of the works," Saefullah said on Friday, January 24, 2020.
