3 High Calcium Cheeses to Maintain Your Health

29 January 2020 09:57 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Who doesn't like pizza filled with cheese or cheese bread? Cheese is now one of the foods that people like to eat in Indonesia.

Cheese is a dairy product with hundreds of different textures and flavors. It was made by adding acid or bacteria to the milk, then processed to become cheese.

Because of its many types, there are some cheeses that are claimed to be healthier among others:

1. Mozzarella cheese

Mozzarella cheese is one of the most common cheeses in Indonesia and becomes many people's favorite. Mozzarella has a soft texture, white-colored, and has a high moisture content. Mozzarella contains lower sodium and calories compared to most other types of cheese. Every 30 grams of mozzarella has about 85 calories and 7 percent of the required daily sodium intake.

Mozzarella also contains bacteria that act as probiotics and can help improve intestinal health, increase immunity, and inflammation in the body. You can add this mozzarella to your favorite salads, stir-fry vegetables or bread slice.

2. Blue cheese

The next one is blue cheese which made from cow, sheep or goat milk. This cheese is white colored with blue or gray spots on it. Blue cheese has more calcium than other types of cheese. About 30 grams of cheese has 33 percent of daily calcium intake for your body. Thus, adding the blue cheese to your diet can help prevent bone problems.

3. Feta cheese

Finally, there is the soft feta cheese from Greece. It usually made from goat or sheep milk which gives the characteristic of sharp taste. Feta cheese is soaked into saltwater to maintain its freshness, so it can produce high sodium. However, this cheese has the lowest calories compared to other cheeses. Feta cheese has conjugated linoleic acid, which functions to reduce fat and can increase BMI (Body Mass Index).

A study mention that consuming 3.2 grams of conjugated linoleic acid per day for 6 months can help reduce body fat and prevent weight gain.
