Cipinang Indah Mall Loses Billions of Rupiah due to Flooding

17 February 2020 10:09 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Cipinang Indah Mall, East Jakarta, suffered losses of up to tens of billions of Rupiah after being closed for 40 days due to flooding.

"The last 40 days have been hard for us. I cannot mention the loss in detail, but it could be up to tens of billions of Rupiah," said Cipinang Indah Mall Chief of Marketing Communication, Aulia Putri, in Jakarta, on Sunday afternoon.

Since the temporary operational closure due to flooding that occurred on January 1, 2020, Mall Cipinang Indah has returned to operations on Saturday, February 15, 2020.

Even though some of the outlets in the mall are not yet fully operational, Aulia claimed that the interest of visitors is still quite high.

"It was beyond our expectations today. After a long coma, the mall has opened with a thanksgiving event and has been very crowded," he said.

Aulia claimed that the floods that hit the Cipinang area in the past month have been the worst situation so far, with the management office and electrical installations underground being entirely flooded.

"Hundreds of our tenants were also closed at the time, because the infrastructure that was flooded in the basement was the center of operation," he said.

Aulia stated that the flood at the time on the LG floor reached a height of up to an adult’s waist, with the Carrefour shopping center on the LG floor also submerged along with the products being sold.
