TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A pollster Indo Barometer revealed its latest survey showing that former governor Basuki Tjahaja Purnama or Ahok was considered better than Governor Anies Baswedan in tackling the traffic congestion in the capital.
The city governor who was deemed the most successful in overcoming the traffic density was Ahok with 35.3 percent, followed by Joko Widodo or Jokowi with 25.3 percent, while Anies only obtained 8.3 percent.
Last year, Anies stated that Jakarta’s traffic improved as it was ranked the seventh most congested city, up from the fourth place in 2017.
“Alhamdulillah, Jakarta’s congestion rate decreases. Inshallah, it will rank below the ten top,” said Anies on November 4, 2019, adding that the number of public transport users reached to over 1 million per day, rocketed from 340,000 passengers in 2017.
Earlier, the TomTom Traffic Index placed Jakarta in the 10th rank of the world’s most congested cities despite no changes in the city's congestion rate of 53 percent.
Apart from congestion issues, the survey revealed that the two previous governors beat Anies on flood handling. “As for flooding issues, Jakarta governor who was deemed the most successful was Ahok (42 percent), followed by Jokowi (25 percent), and then Anies Baswedan (4.1 percent),” said Indo Barometer executive director Muhammad Qodari, describing the survey result at Atlet Century Hotel, Senayan, on Sunday, February 16.
The survey was carried out on January 9-15, 2020, using a stratified multistage random sampling method. It involved 1,200 respondents across the country with a ± 2.83-percent margin of error and a 95-percent confidence level.
