TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Provincial Legislative Council (DPRD) Deputy Chairman Muhamad Taufik stated that the election for Jakarta’s deputy governor would be held openly as a means to avoid money politics.
"So there is no suudzon (negative thinking), if it is closed, there can be money politics. If it is open, there cannot be any money politics [involved]. That’s why it is open," Taufik said in the Jakarta DPRD, on Tuesday, February 18, 2020.
Taufik went on to say that the election for the deputy governor must be open as it is a form of transparency. According to Taufik, this is done in order to inform the public on the election process for the Jakarta Deputy Governor done by the DPRD.
Regarding the mechanism for the Jakarta Deputy Governor election, Taufik stated that it is still being discussed by the DPRD leadership.
Previously, Taufik claimed that the Jakarta Deputy Governor election would have a session to test the eligibility of the candidates in the form of questions and answers with board members.
The current deputy governor candidates are Gerindra Party candidate Ahmad Riza Patria and PKS candidate, Nurmansjah Lubis.
