TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Humor therapy is one of the methods used to recover mental health. A psychiatrist at the Smart Mind Center in Gading Pluit Hospital, Andreas Kurniawan, says that this is an easy and cheap therapy.

Andreas claims this therapy as a cheap method since it doesn't need any medication and it can be done by yourself.

"You just have to smile and laugh. Easy and cheap, right?" he said when met at Humor Therapy event in Central Jakarta Library, Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

In applying this therapy, you can use some instruments such as books, memes, magazines, or comedy events.

The psychiatrist says this therapy can be done at any time. "We can refresh our minds on the sidelines of working hours to avoid stress and depression. You may laugh and smile alone," he explained.

According to Andreas, endorphins will be released when someone smiles and laughs, and it works with a reward system. "The reward system will control pain, stress, and persistent pain," he said.

He, therefore, suggests people to start implementing humor therapy, hoping that it can reduce anxiety, especially for workers and the elderly.

"From now on, try to relax more by smiling and laughing so that the burden of life is lighter," Andreas remarked.
