TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Health Minister Terawan Agus Putranto stressed that a patient suspected of contracting the coronavirus in the isolation room of Kariadi Hospital, Semarang died of H1N1 virus or swine flu.
“[The patient] dies of H1N1, swine flu. This has been confirmed, you see,” said Terawan at the Coordinating Ministry of Human Development and Culture Office in Central Jakarta, Thursday, February 27.
Terawan explained that the hospital had carried out double medical screenings to support the diagnose. The test results revealed that the patient’s body must be buried in plastic cover. “Because [the body] is infectious,” he said, noting that the test came back after the deceased was buried.
As widely reported, the swine flu outbreak had hit Mexico in 2009, and the cure had been found, namely Oseltamivir. Thus, Terawan called on the public not to fret if they present similar symptoms.
According to the minister, Kardiadi hospital had applied the proper approach in handling a patient suspected of being infectious. “I think they carried out the right procedures. And the most important, it is not the coronavirus case,” Terawan concluded.
