South Tangerang Demands Resident to Restrain from Going 'Mudik'

TEMPO.CO, Tangerang Selatan - South Tangerang administration asked all residents not to go for ‘mudik’ or mass exodus during this year's homecoming season of Eid al-Fitr, the annual Muslim holiday. The appeal was voiced in an effort to curb the widespread of the coronavirus transmission.
“I have appealed and demanded residents of South Tangerang not to go home this year for the sake of the common safety,” said South Tangerang Deputy Mayor Benyamin Davnie on Sunday, March 29.
According to Benjamin, his side also called on companies and institutions not to hold programs of free homecoming trips this year in the wake of the Corona outbreak.
“We will echo the appeal through chiefs of the urban community to restrict mudik in a bid to break the transmission chain of the virus,” he remarked.
Benjamin added that many South Tangerang residents returned to their hometowns for Eid al-Fitr holidays annually, compared to those who go back to the region. The appeal followed that of other city administrations, including Jakarta, calling all residents not to go for the annual exodus over the coronavirus outbreak.
