Police HQ on 'Civil Emergency': Let's Wait

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo stated earlier today that 'civil emergency' policies are to be enforced along with physical distancing rules on a large scale. The Indonesian police's headquarters responded.
"Let's wait until it is implemented, and wait for the government [to explain] about the civil emergency," Police Headquarters spokesman Brig. Gen. Argo Yuwono said on Monday, March 30, 2020.
Argo added that the police are not making any special preparation in response to the president's statement of a possible enforcement of 'civil emergency policies'.
He said that the police are now focusing on the physical distancing orders. Among the rules they have enforced include dispersing crowds, asking ojek drivers not to gather when waiting for customers, to asking TV and movie studios to suspend production.
Argo stressed that anyone who disobeys the government's appeal in an effort to mitigate a pandemic will be charged with criminal acts.
President Jokowi made statement of implementing physical distancing policies on a large scale to contain further spreading of Covid-19, the disease produced by the new coronavirus. He ordered his cabinet ministers to draft the rules for implementing the policy so that it could be applied on the provincial level.
Jokowi added that the policy must be accompanied by 'civil emergency policies'.
