Indonesia COVID-19 Cases Nearly Pass 3,000 as of April 8

8 April 2020 16:45 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Indonesian government spokesman for COVID-19 emergency response, Achmad Yurianto, announced new confirmed coronavirus infections on April 8, 2020.

“The total cases amount to 2,956. As many as 222 patients have recovered, and the death toll climbs to 240 patients,” said Yurianto on Wednesday, April 8.

He underlined that staying home and practicing self-isolation are vital in this pandemic era. People are advised to reduce outdoor activities and interactions, as well as wear face masks when leaving the house.

Yurianto further reminded the public to wash their hands with soap before eating or drinking. “So applying hand sanitizer will not be needed. Just [wash hands] with soap and running water,” he said.

Indonesia earlier granted Jakarta, the greatest hit area by the novel coronavirus, to implement large-scale social restrictions. By this, the capital will cut the passenger capacity and hours of public transports and apply mandatory use of face masks to curb the risk of people passing on the virus.

Groups of more than five people in public spaces and two people riding a motorcycle will also be banned, while police patrols tightened to enforce compliance.
