TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Tangerang City Government has prepared a designated site for the burial of COVID-19 deceased patients, at Selapajang Jaya Public Cemetery (TPU) in Neglasari District.

The area covers around 200 meters of the public cemetery, with Muslim burials being located in Block D and non-Muslims burials in Block B.

Secretary of the Tangerang Housing and Settlement Service, Widiastuti, stated that the COVID-19 designated funeral site has been set in anticipation of rejection from nearby residents.

Relevant regional government services and organizations have provided counseling to community representatives at the district office on March 28, and to funeral services employees of Selapajang Jaya Public Cemetery on March 27, 2020.

“Along with the (Tangerang) Health Service, and the regional government, we have provided counseling to the chiefs of neighborhood (RT/RW) as well as public figures in the community surrounding the public cemetery, so that they are not worried about COVID-19 funerals in their area," Widi said in her statement, on Wednesday, April 8, 2020.

Furthermore, the Tangerang Administration has prepared Personal Protective Equipments (PPE) specifically for funeral service employees at the Selapajang Jaya public cemetery.

"So, when they are going to receive the deceased from the hospital, the burial officers will be outfitted in PPE, thereby minimizing the (possibility) of COVID-19 transmission to funeral services employees," she continued.
