TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe Directorate for Indonesian Citizen and Legal Entity Protection of the Foreign Affairs Ministry confirmed that an Indonesian man was deported from South Korea for violating the mandatory self-isolation rules. The person’s identity was not published.

“Yes, an Indonesian citizen was deported by the South Korean government. His return was facilitated and he had been escorted to Bogor,” said Director for Indonesian Citizen and Legal Entity Protection, Judha Nugraha, on Thursday, April 9.

According to Judha, the man arrived at Incheon Airport on April 4. The Indonesian Embassy in Seoul on April 7 received reports that the man falsely reported his local address and left the registered self-isolation venue. He was then deported on April 8.

As widely reported, all migrants arriving in South Korea are obliged to practice individual quarantine for 14 days and submit their self-isolation venue in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak. However, the man was found to be not in a registered place.

South Korea earned international plaudits for tracking and containing the coronavirus since reporting its first case in February, as quoted from aljazeera.com. The country also managed to curb the number of confirmed cases to around 50 each day.
