Social Restrictions; Police Set Up 20 Checkpoints in Jakarta

9 April 2020 22:12 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaJakarta Metro Police had set up 20 checkpoints at Jakarta borders to oversee vehicles entering and exiting the capital during the large-scale social restrictions or PSBB period. At the post, police will monitor the number of passengers in a vehicle to ensure the people abide by the PSBB rules.

“We have now built 20 checkpoints in all areas of Jakarta, especially at the borders, such as the border of East Jakarta and Bekasi, West Jakarta and Tangerang,” said the police’s traffic director Sr. Comr. Sambodo Purnomo Yogo on Thursday, April 9.

Sambodo said the inspection would be similar to that of during the 3-in-1 traffic restriction imposed on the city’s protocol road. The police will randomly stop private and public vehicles and check the number of passengers inside. Vehicles violating the PSBB will be asked to turn around and not be allowed to enter Jakarta.

“The inspection at checkpoints does not mean a blockade or closure, but we are just checking the number of passengers in one fleet,” Sambodo explained.

The system, he added, will be made into effect once Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan enforces the status of the large-scale social restrictions on Friday, April 10. The Jakarta Police Traffic Directorate is still waiting for the gubernatorial regulation.

With the tight physical distancing order, the number of passengers in a vehicle is limited to 50 percent of the maximum capacity. For example, only three passengers are allowed to board one minibus with 6-7 seats.
