TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs, Airlangga Hartarto, revealed that at least seven provinces are indicated to be ready to implement the new normal.
According to data from the National Development Planning Board (Bappenas), a number of regions based on their COVID-19 reproduction number (R0), including Aceh, Riau, North Kalimantan, Maluku, Jambi and Jakarta, are ready to apply for the new normal after June 4, 2020.
"Then, (in) West Java, there are several regions where the PSBB (Large Scale Social Restriction) policy is set to end on May 29," Airlangga said after a limited meeting with President Jokowi, on Wednesday, May 27.
As a prerequisite for the enactment of the new normal scenario, Airlangga continued, the implementation needs to be in coordination with the COVID-19 Task Force and the Ministry of Health.
On the other hand, for regions with Rt (R effective; is a reproduction number occurred after government intervention) figures less than 1, chief of regional governments are expected to develop protocols for trials before the policies are implemented at large, through the regional leadership coordination forum (forkopimda).
“The public attitude also needs to be prepared, so that they are truly disciplined," he said.
As such, Airlangga stated that the National Military and Police (TNI-Polri) have been instructed to patrol in areas of public gathering, in order to ensure that the public follows new normal health protocols.
“This is done to prevent a second wave from happening. If there is a second wave, activities will need to be stopped again,” the minister added.
Previously, President Jokowi had revealed that the National Military and Police will conduct public disciplining in 1,800 places of public interest, across four provinces and 25 districts/ cities, as of Tuesday, May 26, 2020.
