Homecoming Travelers Heading Back to Jakarta Post-Eid

28 May 2020 22:07 WIB

TEMPO.CO, JakartaState-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga recorded 171,046 vehicles had headed to Jakarta from eastern, western, and southern outside perimeter on May 25-27, which are what Officials consider as the 'homecoming return' after the Eid al-Fitr holiday.

“From those vehicles heading back to Jakarta, 31.7 percent of those came from the east, 34.2 percent came from the west, and 34.1 percent of them from the southern perimeter,” said Jasa Marga head of communication and community development, Dwimawan Heru, on Thursday, May 28.

This comes after the fact that the government had extended the monitoring of vehicles' homecoming return traffic up to June 7th.

Authorities are overseeing the vehicles since the Jakarta administration is still undergoing large-scale social restriction (PSBB) effectively limiting the entrance of passenger vehicles into the capital city. Those who do not have the health permits - requiring them to be tested and cleared of COVID-19 - are banned from entering back into Jakarta and will be forced to not continue their travel.

“The transportation ministry’s regulation No.25/2020 oversees restrictions of homecoming travels or mudik up to May 31. The monitoring itself will last until June 7th. At least we will restrict vehicles [returning to Jakarta] that do not have the required permits,” said the Greater Jakarta Transportation Agency (BPTJ) director of infrastructure Edi Nursalam.
