TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Ministry of Education and Culture has issued Circular Letter No. 15 of 2020, which includes the guidelines for home learning amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The purpose of homeschooling is to ensure that the student’s rights to education remain fulfilled, even during the pandemic.
It is also geared to prevent the spread and transmission of COVID-19 in educational services, while also ensuring psychosocial support for educators, students, and parents.
“The primary choice is to curb COVID-19 transmission in the existing conditions as much as possible, while still trying to fulfill educational services," said the Ministry’s expert staff on regulations, Chatarina Mulia Girsang.
Furthermore, she cited learning from home as a solution to provide a meaningful learning experience for students in an adjusted curriculum that focuses on the ‘life skills’ aspect of education, which includes learning about the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Learning materials are inclusive in accordance with the age and level of education, cultural context, character and type of specificity of students," she explained.
According to Chatarina, the guidelines for the home learning program may vary in regions throughout the country, as well as the disparity in access to the facilities.
“Learning outcomes during the home learning period are given qualitative and useful feedback from teachers, without having to give quantitative scores, while also focusing on promoting positive communication patterns between teachers and parents,” Chatarina added.
