TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A virtual tour organized by Ragunan Zoo in South Jakarta this week presents Ratna and Dino, a couple of Sumatran orangutan (Pongo Abelii).

Ratna and Dino greeted the virtual audience on Ragunan Zoo's official Instagram @ragunanzoo on Sunday at 9 a.m. local time.

The zoo has organized virtual tour on its Instagram since May 10, 2020m featuring a series of animals like Sumatran elephant, Sumatran tigers, and Siamang apes (Symphalangus syndactylus) .

In its presentation, the audience is invited to get acquainted with the animals in the Ragunan Zoo, and introduced to the animals' names, and their favorite food.

Visitors to virtual tours can also interact by posing questions on the Ragunan Zoo's Instastory (Instagram Story). The questions will be answered directly by the animal keepers.

The questions could be, for example, on the animals' favorite things, about their daily habit in their natural habitat, and about their age.

The Head of Ragunan Zoo's Promotion Department, Ketut Widarsana, said that the virtual tours of Ragunan have so far been held four times. The first tour was held on May 10, 2020, featuring a Sumatran elephant named Pangeran Lestari Mulyani.

The second virtual tour was held on May 17, with two Sumatran tigers - Hana and Tino - as the hosts.

And the third tour was organized on May 21, by featuring a Siamang family named Zulkarnain (father), Nia (mother), and Janu.

The Ragunan Zoo was officially opened on June 22, 1966, by the then Jakarta governor, Ali Sadikin.

Virtual tours are organized as the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has forced temporary closures of all amusement centers in the capital city, to prevent the spread of the virus.
