TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Gerindra Party Deputy Chairperson and known government opposition Fadli Zon on Wednesday argues that the firm warning by President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo acknowledges that there are problems that exist within a number of state ministries.
He believes that Jokowi must followup on his public warning if the president does not want to be delegitimized.
“[The presidents] speech will just be forgotten if it is not followed up. It’s ambiguous and theatrical which eventually sees him ‘washing his hands’[of responsibility],” said Fadli Zon at the House of Representatives (DPR) complex on Wednesday.
Fadli Zon argues that a Cabinet reshuffle would not be a huge deal if it truly takes place, moreover after Jokowi himself mentioned it in his angered speech.
Zon believes President Jokowi needs to evaluate two sectors: national healthcare that is related to COVID-19 and the economic effects due to the pandemic. “There are other relevant sectors that the President may have his own judgment,” said Zon.
Despite his criticism, Fadli Zon believes that the current political stability is at an acceptable level and is sure that another ‘Jokowi Cabinet reshuffle’ would not be too problematic. He only noted that the instability lies within the nation’s economy and handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Sharing the same sentiment, executive director of Parameter Politik Indonesia, Adi Prayitno, said on Wednesday that President Jokowi’s public anger towards his own state-ministers would carry zero weight if it is not followed by a Cabinet restructure.
