Indonesian Movie Theaters Prepare to Resume Business

8 July 2020 10:20 WIB

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - After months of not operating due to Covid-19, Indonesia's movie theaters will reopen on July 29. Under the situation, the industry is making preparations to adjust how businesses will operate under certain health protocols.

"The cinema industry players have discussed and agreed to resume operating activities starting Wednesday, July 29, 2020, simultaneously throughout Indonesia," the Indonesian Cinema Entrepreneurs Association (GPBSI) chairman Djonny Syafruddin said as Antara reported.

Movie theater companies and groups that are members of GPBSI are Cinema XXI, CGV, Cinepolis, Dakota Cinema, Platinum and New Star Cineplex.

The Health Ministry has issued a decree on Health Protocols in Public Areas and Facilities to Prevent and Control Covid-19. Other relevant ministries have also issued a joint decree supporting the rule—particularly on the technical aspects of implementing emergency health protocols during the pandemic.

Referring to the said rules, theater entrepreneurs need around two to three weeks to prepare the implementations of health protocols in the cinema buildings.

The preparations are in the form of communication materials and information dissemination on the application of new normal health protocols, internal education and trainings on how to implement the protocols.

Movie theater managers also need time to talk with film studios about products and promotional materials.
