Ancol Reclamation Criticized Over Environmental Impact Analysis

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Urban planning observer from Trisakti University, Nirwono Joga, on Wednesday highlighted three important aspects contained in the Ancol reclamation plan, one of which he says is a spatial violation as it is not contained in the city’s spatial planning regulation.
“This is different from the reclamation plan that would have affected 17 islands, which has been scrapped,” Nirwono confirmed to Tempo on Wednesday.
The Ancol reclamation is mentioned in the Governor’s Decree No.237/2020 on the permit to expand the Dufan area by 35 hectares and 120 hectares for the recreational space in East Ancol. The decree was signed by Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on February 24, 2020.
The urban planning expert argues that the Ancol reclamation has yet been studied for its environmental impact analysis (AMDAL) and the use of sedimentation from five reservoirs and 13 rivers for the island’s creation.
Important aspects after another that have yet been looked into have created the perception that the Jakarta Administration is not well prepared with its plan to revamp the North Jakarta area.
