TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo has urged caution in the increasing daily surge of COVID-19 cases. Today, July 9, Indonesia saw 2,657 new infections.
“I need to remind this as I think this is already a red light again. Today, the nationwide hike in the positive cases hit 2,657,” said the President via a teleconference from the Central Kalimantan COVID-19 mitigation post in Palangka Raya on Thursday, July 9.
He demanded all regions stay vigilant and keep controlling the virus transmission, including Central Kalimantan province despite reporting low infections. The latest data showed that the province had 23 new positive cases, bringing the national toll to 1,096, with 484 recoveries and 65 fatalities.
“But if this small number is not well controlled, the crisis management is not carried out, and the people did not ask to cooperate, beware, the figure I mentioned can possibly increase,” Jokowi added.
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in Indonesia as of Thursday, July 9, hit 70,736. As many as 32,651 patients have recovered, while the death toll reached 3,417.
