TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Governor Anies Baswedan on late Monday online discussion questioned the allegations often accusing him of being an intolerant leader. The Jakarta governor defended that he strives to embrace each and every group in his 2.5 years leading Indonesia’s capital city.
“Show me, in the past two years which of my policies are considered intolerant. Please, reveal which of the polices that I introduced are discriminative,” said Anies Baswedan in the 'Indonesia Leaders Talk’ that carries the theme ‘memoir of the 2017 gubernatorial election' on August 10.
He said that his accusers are consumed by their own imagination due to the heightened hate they have against, arguing that several groups are intentionally trying to tie the government with intolerant groups.
But the governor stated that he will not dwell on the issue and said that “[Product] of imagination should not be countered by imagination. It must clash with reality.” He then challenged anyone to bring evidence onto the table.
Anies Baswedan mentioned in the event that unity depends on the aspect of justice and equality that the people feel.
