TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The COVID-19 pandemic has devastated multiple sectors in society as it not only greatly affected public health but also affected the economy, mainly the Micro Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). Too often have we heard about MSMEs shutting down their business due to cost issues that they could no longer sustain.
The Ministry of Cooperatives and SMEs special staff, Fikri Satari, said that one of the ways MSMEs in Indonesia can do to survive the global pandemic is through digital transformation as it would enable businesses not just to survive but also to be competitive.
“The main thing that MSMEs can do to survive this situation is to adapt their businesses, especially amidst the digital age. Digital literacy must be adopted to survive and compete with other businesses,” said Fikri Satari in an online seminar on MSMEs and the digital ecosystem on August 12.
This was also echoed by Midtrans CEO, Erwin Tanudjaja, who believes that MSMEs “Must start to adapt and do the transition into a number of digital platforms. Amid the pandemic, many people are more interested in shopping at e-commerce platforms than go to physical stores.”
The seminar also featured Tante Sayur founder, Poetri Andayani, who represents the MSMEs that have adapted to a digital payment platform that has helped increase her business’ revenue.
