TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo awarded Bintang Mahaputera Nararya medals to Gerindra Party politician Fadli Zon and Gelora Party politician Fahri Hamzah. The country’s highest civilian honors were handed today, August 13, at the State Palace, Central Jakarta.
The award raised public questions since both politicians often criticized Jokowi’s policies. Lately, Gerindra joined the government coalition, and Fahri left the PKS to join Gelora Party.
“Political opponents, having differences in politics, do not mean we are enemies in practicing state duties. This is a democracy,” said the president after the awarding event.
He underlined that he had a good friendship with Fahri and Fadli, clarifying that both were selected by the Title, Order of Merit, and Honors Council.
Fadli Zon and Fahri Hamzah are among the seven names who are honored with Bintang Mahaputera Nararya. The other four are politicians, namely Mahyudin, Agus Hermanto, Farouk Muhammad Saleh, and Rahmat Shah. The last figure is former National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT) Comr. Gen. (ret.) Suhardi Alius.
