TEMPO.CO, JakartaThe hike of tourists visiting destinations in Yogyakarta’s area of Gunung Kidul could be seen in the past two days during the long holiday.

Gunung Kidul Tourism Department official Aris Sugiyantoro said that on Wednesday, the number of visitors reached 5,000 people. Until Thursday afternoon, around 9,000 tourists have entered the travel destinations.

Aris predicted the number would continue to increase. “We predicted that the peak of tourist visits will occur on Saturday and Sunday. The dominance of the visits is to the beach,” he said Thursday, October 29.

The most visited beaches include Baron Beach, Pok Tunggal Beach, Ngrawe Beach, and Kukup Beach. Aris explained visitors started flocking the areas in the morning and most of the tourists came from Central Java.

Due to the tourist visit hike in the past two days, Tourism Department secretary Harry Sukomon is optimistic that the targeted revenue from the long holiday of Rp400 million will be achieved.

Meanwhile, tight surveillance of health protocol in each destination has been carried out by officers from the tourism department. Therefore, it is hoped that the hike of visitors won’t cause a new Covid-19 infection cluster at tourist destinations.
