TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The deputy secretary general of the National Paralympic Committee (NPC Indonesia), Rima Ferdianto, said that Indonesia is ready to replace Vietnam as host of the 10th ASEAN Para Games in 2022.

Vietnam has decided step down as host of Southeast Asia's biggest sporting event for athletes with disabilities, and is reportedly planning to only hold the SEA Games in Hanoi.

With this decision, NPC Indonesia as a member of the ASEAN Para Sport Federation (APSF) will hold a meeting to discuss the continuation and fate of the 2022 ASEAN Para Games.

"In that occasion, we will also propose to be an alternative host, just like Thailand. Because we don't want to lose momentum after the Philippines did not hold the 2019 ASEAN Para Games," Rima said at a press conference in Jayapura, Sunday, November 7.

NPC Indonesia does not want to lose the moment of glory of Indonesian athletes after making history at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics by winning two gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Indonesia was also the champion in the 2017 ASEAN Para Games in Malaysia, bringing home 126 gold, 75 silver and 50 bronze medals.
