TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta:The British government is reviewing its travel warning to Indonesia that has been in force since the Bali bombing tragedy. British Minister of Foreign Affairs Jack Straw made this announcement to reporters after meeting with Indonesian Vice President Hamzah Haz in Jakarta on Friday (10/1). He said the government has been reviewing the travel warning during the last two to three days. We will give the correct information to the English people, said Straw who was accompanied by British Ambassador to Indonesia, Richard Gozney. During the one-hour meeting, Minister Straw conveyed his condolences over the Bali bombing tragedy last October. He expressed praise for Indonesias economic and social recovery efforts following the tragedy. Straw went on to say that Britain has already provided assistance in support of Indonesias economic recovery. He cited the fact that British Petroleum (BP) has invented US$3 billion for in the oil refinery in Tangguh, Papua. Regarding British involvement in the United States plan to attack Iraq, Straw said that the country wanted to solve the conflict peacefully. The British government is reviewing the report of the UN team that investigated Iraq. A solution to Iraqs problems, Straw added, depends on Saddam Husseins stance. Regarding the Iraq problem, a decision could be made if Saddams government realizes there is possibly a threat of violence, he said. (Deddy Sinaga-Tempo News Room)
