TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Members of the Indonesian general public still considers the country has a corruptive attitude despite the existence of the Commission for Eradication of Corruption (KPK). This conclusion resulted from a survey carried out by KPK between February and June 2008. Out of 2,191 respondents, 51.66 percent stated no improvement at all before and after KPK was established.Only 29.2 percent of respondents stated that the corruptive attitude was reduced, said M. Jasin, KPK Deputy Chairman for the Prevention Division, on Thursday (7/8) during a press conference in Jakarta.Jasin mentioned that 48.7 percent of respondents stated a decrease in government officials attitude in corrupting and corruption cases. The survey said that KPKs establishment did not create a sense of disgrace among people. However, the survey showed people still expect KPK to eradicate corruption in Indonesia. They see KPK as having higher integrity compared to other law enforcement officers, because they feel that KPK is more independent, fair and has more authority.The survey was conducted in Jakarta, Medan, Surabaya, Semarang, Banjarmasin, and Makassar with respondents including university students, private officials, government officials (military and policemen), entrepreneurs, and retired people.Sutarto
